Starbucks Ready for Jozi Takeover
Starbucks South Africa has announced its plans for a Jozi takeover a first for sub-Saharan Africa, check it out…
Coffee-lovers brace yourselves as we’re about to reveal the brand new caffeine fix you’ve all been waiting for is finally here. Starbucks South Africa is opening new stores across the country so coffeeholics and baristas take heed.
The next branch is set to open in Menlyn Maine in Pretoria, in early October. South Africa first welcomed the full Starbucks experience including coffee, fresh food and free, high-speed Wi-Fi at their Rosebank and Mall of Africa stores.
The Starbucks store designs are inspired by South African art and culture giving it a feel of Mzansi and the heart of its people.
With the cityscape of Tshwane as its muse the store makes use of strong geometric lines of the buildings and the city’s warm vibrant lifestyle for the store’s overall theme. A definite highlight of the store is a hand-painted mural by Seven Veil Studios that pays homage to the very first Starbucks store in Seattle’s Pike Place Market. It incorporates an element of South Africa through its depiction of local flora.
In the Rosebank coffee shop all the wooden furniture is hand-made as the brand supports local artists and all the décor elements are South African made as well. There is even a localised menu for Starbucks South Africa that includes the country’s favourite beverage, Rooibos.
The popular coffee brand also produces special edition mugs for customers to buy, with the city that they are bought in emblazoned on the mug. The mugs are only available in the city they are from, making them a unique, collectable item. Johannesburg is now included in this exclusive list of mugs and has its own Starbucks city mug.
Starbucks currently serve 40 million customers a week and have over 16,850 shops in 40 countries across the world and now South Africa joins the rankings.
