Use the magic words
Let’s be honest, the truth is that most of us we rely on assistant day in and out, and at some point we all need each other for different reasons at large; from work, home and in our community as well.
The word ‘Please’ it’s an act that shows that the person is not demanding yet asking nicely for help and the scale does not matter how little or big it is. In as much as the person has more power to say no after using the magic word, but the word please on its own has some kind of persuasion within it, it gives the other person a chance to reconsider the ‘no’ answer that was about to be uttered to a ‘yes’; but only if the tone used is aligned as well – it is sincere.
Thank You’ is used to show gratitude, acknowledgement or express some sense of appreciation and value the effort put into it. It also encourages people to keep helping one another without dragging their feet. Let us not forget that not only bad habits are easy to rub-off to the next person, but good ones do too; people will treat you and start being appreciative if they see you doing it to them or to the next person; but this time let it start by you.
Using these magic words goes beyond just showing good manners, respect and consideration; they have the power to create, maintain and even destroy existing or possible relationship. Think of how many relationships would be still standing if those words were said where needed. A place called home would be the warmest place to run to when things gets so ugly and unfavourable out there. Some families would still be united like the unbreakable bond not only by blood but by how they simply respect one another and always seeing the value of the other person whether they are well-off or not.
How many companies would have been ranked the top, the best of the best, still be operating successfully and generating a lot of profit? But just because the boss or the person whom you report to fails to recognise the amount of effort you put in to produce more quality work way beyond their expectation or only be in familiar terms with the person who gets to submit the work; forgetting that it actually took the whole team bring improvement and sound ideas.
Regardless of whether that is written or printed in bold words under your job description; before we are employees, we are human, we are not going to be mute in acting out our emotions from the lack of consideration triggered by the way we are treated. As a result; employees start to underperform, stop being innovative and more. Time and again people need to be appreciated by saying ‘Thank you’ and ‘Please’ when asking.
Some people prefer to show their gratitude by getting the other person a gift, it can a card, money, take them for lunch or any other thing of the greatest value measuring the amount of gratefulness. However; a ‘Thank You’ doesn’t really have to be something big; words on its own can also do as much justice to the end receiver too. Next time people won’t be hesitant when you need help, but quickly jump-off onto how they can assist you.
Here is a challenge, I edge you to all; people at the top of the pyramid to the one on the at the bottom let’s start using these words more often and see where it can actually get you, belief me when I say a little goes a long way.
