As far as boy bands go this has got to be my all-time favourite and being a 90s kid I have experienced my fair share of boy bands from New Edition, Boyz II men, New Kids on the Block to Backstreet Boys and not forgetting everyone’s favourite Westlife . Beatenberg is a group of three super talented young South Africans who are surprisingly (well because classic and pop do not really go along so to speak) schooled in classical music such as Debussy and John Coltrane and Beethoven. Their sound is amazing, especially if you are an awkward dancer.
When I saw the poster I immediately had an anxiety attack (the good kind of course) and when I finally calmed down I thanked the Lord for my savings because I finally I had a good enough reason to splurge a little. So my boys (Beatenberg, I hope they do not mind me calling them that) will be hosted by Cornwall Hill College for their Music festival on the 7th of October for a super save deal of R160 (parking is totally free, YEY! #clappingmyhands).
This will be the first time I will be experiencing them live, so in order to prepare I decided to do a bit of research on what I refer to as ‘concert etiquette’. Most of their songs are independently produced, they played at the TEDx Conference a few years ago and have done a few tours in Joburg playing alongside legends, which is information that I definitely need to know. Chelsea Blackmore, Pluto, Southern Suburbs, Rafael, Fool You’ve Landed and Echoes are some of the songs I know off by heart. So according to my research I have checked two of the three most important things off from my concert etiquette list.
Now I had to wait patiently for the weekend, finding out about their gig at Cornwall Hill on a Monday was a true test, but I am not about to let 168 hours spoil this for me. So if you do not have any plans this weekend come on down to Cornwall with your crazy bunch (because we all have those crazy friends we love to have a good time with) for some really good music.
