CNA Inspires the Top 4 of David Tlale The Intern.
It’s been an amazing journey with The Intern by David Tlale and CNA as we’ve witnessed some incredible designs take centre stage of our small screens over the past weeks.
Eliminations and deliberations have come and gone and now we enter into the Grand Finale with our Top 4 contestants! We caught up with the interns ahead of Wednesday’s final to find out exactly what has kept them inspired throughout this tight competition.
Taking a Page From Cyla’s Fashion Book
Cyla Gonsolves is a 22 year old emerging creative from Stellenbosch who believes in fashion with a cause. Cyla is currently pursuing her Advance Diploma at CTCFD and believes that fashion should start a conversation that ignites the fire within. After winning the CNA paper challenge, where the contestants were asked to create a design made entirely from stationery supplies, we know Cyla is a major contender. When asked from where she draws her inspiration Cyla simply tells us ‘The creative culture of Cape Town and the CNA Inspiration Bar have helped to keep me inspired in this competition’. Taking home the title of the CNA challenge winner is something Cyla says she didn’t expect at all, but we’re expecting a whole lot more from this budding talent!
Samuel Mosala’s Etches his Signature Style
Samuel is a self-taught designer from Durban and at 44 years, with 20 years of experience under his belt, he still finds himself learning new things. Samuel did a one year course in pattern-making at the Durban University of Technology and tells us that ‘A happy client always inspires me to go out and be better’. His Background is one that motivates him to push forward and to deliver quality finished products that he can be proud of. Sam say’s the CNA Inspiration Bar has been very exciting for him as it has allowed him access to a level knowledge that he did not have back home. We can’t wait to view the next collection from this self taught tailor!
Meet Kuena Moshoeshoe – Architect of Fashion.
Kuena is all the way from Lesotho. She studied Fashion Design at the University of Johannesburg from where she recently graduated. Kuena tells us that ‘Having showcased at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week has been an amazing experience’- admitting that it’s one she will never forget. ‘I’m inspired by architecture, the human form and other types of art such as sculptures, paintings and films’ Kuena also maintains that the CNA inspiration Bar has been an integral source of creativity right through the competition, as the books and magazines have been the starting point for many of her ideas and designs. She is also inspired by fabric and enjoys manipulating patterns to make her work more interesting. This young go getter continues to blow us away with her use of graphic lines and inspired techniques – will she be David’s next designer?
Young Guns Blazing, Keletso Moraba Does it His Way!
The youngest of the interns, Keletso, is 23 years old, from Limpopo. He started designing his first garments 5 years ago and had his older sister adorn his designs. Driven by a passion for fashion, Keletso decided to pursue his dreams and develop his craft at Central Johannesburg Collage, in 2016. Keletso credits his mother, a self-taught seamstress as his inspiration and his reason for becoming a fashion designer. Another source of inspiration for Keletso has been the CNA inspiration bar, describing it as ‘a bright colourful space where you can bring your ideas to life, and the stationery is the best ever!’ – having witnessed Keletso’s designs in person, we know he is a sure shot for success!
As we anxiously approach the season finale of this nail biting reality TV show, we can’t help but root for all the designers. We’ve watched each of them enter this competition and grow tremendously along the way, keeping us inspired and enlightened with every episode.
