Fine Dining at Priva Gastronomic Lounge
A beautiful Thursday Evening as the sun dips below the horizon as I mount the steps to Priva Gastronomic Lounge, http://www.privalounge.com/ for those who haven’t been to this particular fine dining restaurant it is a must-see attraction. With beautiful décor and lighting. I am greeted at the door by well a dressed man with a slight eastern European accent. He introduces himself as Marko Jovancic part owner of this beautiful spectacle they call a fine dining restaurant.
He seats me at the balcony which boasts a beautiful view over Waterkloof valley. The exclusivity of this restaurant strikes me straight away. Tucked away from prying eyes it is quite and serene, a partnership that suits the décor as well. As I walked through the restaurant for us to take our seats, I spy a small stage tucked away, but what really grabs my attention is their whiskey and wine selection. Some of those bottles were older than my niece. An impressive feat at best. I ask Marko, the part owner, how he would explain this, the restaurant, to someone who has never been or seen it before. His definition was simply, Priva is a fine dining restaurant that offers a cigar lounge, with a whiskey and oyster bar. It is the peak of relaxation in Pretoria, added to the fact that they have live jazz on most evenings. As a restaurant, it is the perfect getaway offering numerous things to clients.
Seemed straight forward enough, I guess we would have to see what they could offer.
Starting with the foodies, Chef Cayla Riley and Maxine Bastos have prepared an exquisite menu that challenges the taste buds but is also visually appealing, with stark contrasts between taste and texture that keeps you guessing. With this still being Pretoria the meat is superb. Soft and delicious. Something I will remember. Marko goes on to explain some of the exotic cocktails that seem out of this world, with Priva being a whiskey bar, it is prominent in the bars cocktail undertaking with numerous specialty cocktails whiskey being the main component. Let us not also forget the tucked away cigar lounge, which boasts leather backed armchairs I feel like a bond villain, and that I have arrived. Priva within its own right has blown me away with class, service, and imagination of what a restaurant can offer and they delivered.
At this stage I am blown away, I am in bliss, a stomach full of good food and good wine. With an after-dinner whiskey to soak it all up, and the band starts playing a slow, smooth, and sultry sound. That becomes the perfect back drop as the night quickly disappeared into morning. What doesn’t this place have.
