“I am the King of Maskandi” Khangelani Mhlongo (DSD)
Khangelani Mhlongo is a South African Maskandi singer who is popularly known as DSD. We had an opportunity to speak to DSD and in this interesting interview, he tells us about his music, and his honest opinions about maskandi genre.
GLM: Who is Khangelani?
DSD: I am a hard working and talented offspring of Mhlongo clan, at eQhudeni, KwaNgono in Nkandla.
GLM: How did you decide on the stage name DSD?
DSD: DSD is an acronym derived from my other name Dubula Sodubulana.
GLM: Describe who you are in one word
DSD: King of Maskandi
GLM: Do you think there is growth in maskandi genre?
DSD: A lot of it.
GLM: Are you happy where you are as a singer?
DSD: For now I am thrilled but I would be much delighted if I can sell outside South Africa.
GLM: Who do you look up to for inspiration?
DSD: The late Mngqumeni and Mahawukela Inspired me.
GLM: What can be done by the government to grow African music?
DSD: Both government and fans should assist artist in fighting against piracy.
GLM: Beside music what do you do?
DSD: Music is my everyday lifestyle.
GLM: How can we stop the pea brained behavior in Maskandi Music
DSD: People must just accept that I am the King of Maskandi and my fellow artists should stop provoking me just because they want fame.
GLM: Tell us about your new album
DSD: My new album is titled THE CLAIRVOYANT, it is not yet out but has already done wonders.
GLM: Where can people get your music or book you?
DSD: My music is available in all music stores in South Africa.
