Mbhobozeni: I’ve been here for a decade now. I started off as Thokozani Langa’s dancer. I featured in his 2 albums “Wawuthini” and “Phumakimi”. I later joined Bonakele(Gospel Maskandi singer), we worked together in most of her projects including “Ngamehlo”.
GLM: Tell us about your debut album “UMFANEKISO WAKHO”, what makes it unique?
Mbhobozeni: Umfanekiso Wakho is a zulu word that means Your Picture. A picture is a symbol of imagination, I remind the listener about this. However, many people love track number 8,Yakuphephula. What makes this album unique is that it’s my first album and fuses a lot of different sounds, encourages and motivates.
GLM:What are some of the challenges you face in the music industry?
Mbhobozeni:Being so not popular in the music industry and having to work twice as hard to earn a place in limelight. Distributing my music on my own.
GLM: Do you have any other source of income?
Mbhobozeni: Yes, I am in transport business.
GLM: Who is your best friend in the industry and why?
Mbhobozeni: Bake Mchunu, because we work very close and we respect each other.
GLM: There is a popular term that is used to describe newcomers in the Maskandi music, “amavukane” and you do not like this term why?
Mbhobozeni: Nobody is born a legend, we all have worked our way to the top therefore people should stop undermining people’s efforts and call them names.
