MOSHITO 2019 A WOMEN’s AFFAIR
As Moshito 2019 dedicates this year’s music gathering to women and there is no fitting venue of choice than the Constitution Hill – a reminder of the transformation that this country has undergone. This world heritage site is now a living memory of what was once a site of war, strife and political imprisonment yet has today become an Icon of Democracy.
Appropriately themed ‘Inzalabantu – Unchained’, this year’s music conference is a recognition and praise for women who like no other, usher life into the world while facing the challenges thrown at them with the resilience and courage to break free from chains that keep women supressed and dispossessed.
No even this former Women’s Prison, built around 1892 to confine and restrict women, will stop these majestic beings, infact it has brought them closer together.
Moshito 2019 is dedicated to the trials and tribulations of women in music – their aspirations, challenges, and triumphs. It is in this spirit that Moshito will, in the main, have an artistic, cultural and conference program that addresses, showcases and exhibits work done by women in the music industry.
Moshito Chairperson Dr Sipho Sithole says: “For Moshito, the theme #Inzalabantu-Unchained is dedicated to every woman, past and present, who have used artistic expressions, particularly music, to engage with society with the sole purpose of wanting to be heard whilst making a living out of this art form.”
Enriched with over 16 music markets across the African soil, it will run from 4 – 7 September 2019 at the iconic Constitution Hill in Joburg, South Africa. This year’s will see a gathering of delegates from as far as Botswana, Canada, Cameroon, France, Germany, Jamaica, Mauritius, Mozambique, Reunion Island, Nigeria, Swaziland, South Korea, Seychelles, Spain, UK, USA, Zanzibar and across the country, lined up to have a front row seat at the music table.
Aligned with the theme, Moshito 2019 has chosen the legendary PJ Powers and enchanting songstress Berita, as this year’s Ambassadors who as they embody what this Africa’s premier music market stand for.
This year’s conference will be like no other, from chants to the creation of music, to melodies when trying to calm wars, the voice of the woman will echo and bless the upcoming conference.
