PLAYING FOR PINK RAISES R150K FOR BREAST CANCER INITIATIVE.
Entertainment company, black®, in association with Whirlpool, handed over a cheque for R150 000 to breast cancer support group, Reach for Recovery at Inanda Club yesterday. The money raised at the prestigious Playing for Pink Ladies Invitational Polo, which took place last year on 27 October, will go towards the organisation’s Ditto Project.
Reach for Recovery provides emotional care and practical support to newly diagnosed breast cancer patients and their families. Its Ditto Project is a breast prosthesis initiative aimed at providing breast prosthesis to women who cannot afford reconstructive surgery.
Edith Venter Promotions owner, Edith Venter says the event, which is now in its fifth year, is growing in status and success. “Playing for Pink coincides with Breast Awareness Month every year. In 2018, we raised R20 000 more than in 2017. We are grateful to black® and Whirlpool for their sponsorship and to the guests, who attended the Polo event in support of this good cause. We hope to raise even more when we hold the event again on 26 October 2019.”
The event attracted some of South Africa’s A-listers, social media influencers, sports personalities and fashion enthusiasts for a day of entertainment, gourmet food, high-fashion, pampering, luxury shopping and, of course, a fiercely contested polo match.
black®’s Public and Media Relations Manager, Precious Nkabinde, says Reach for Recovery is a deserving recipient of the R150 000. “We are happy to have been able to part of such an impactful initiative. The work the Ditto Project does to support breast cancer survivors and help them feel accepted again is invaluable. ”
Whirlpool Marketing Executive, Lorraine De Graaff, says raising awareness around breast cancer is close to Whirlpool’s heart. “We are delighted to be part of a programme that helps women overcome the anxiety and self-doubt that often follows a mastectomy.”
Reach for Recovery’s Chairperson of the board Stephné Jacobs, says the organisation is grateful for Playing for Pink’s annual donation. “We are an autonomous organisation run by volunteers. Without the funds we receive from events such as these, we would not be able to help the women who desperately need our support.”
Look out for more information on this year’s Playing for Pink Women Invitational Polo event. In the meantime, we are excited to announce that this year the Polo event will be on the 26th of October and theme will be “Pink Tropical”.
