Q&A with the South African Reggae Queen Nkulee Dube.
Q: Who’s Nkulee Dube?
A: I am a Singer, songwriter, performer, and an artist who loves and respects her job.
Q:Tell us about your background and how did you get started in Reggae Music?
A: I started singing when I was 16 and got into reggae when I was 22. I worked in the industry for a few years with Lebo Mathosa.
Q: Tell us about your Song “Look to you”? Did you write the song? What was the inspiration?
A: I was featured by NC Dread, he wrote the song and I added my verse to what his song was about.
Q: What is the best compliment you have gotten about your album “The Journey”?
A: People are looking towards the release of the album in South Africa and people are telling me ‘it’s GREAT”…
Q: What is the reggae scene like in South Africa?
A: The reggae scene in South Africa is still growing but coming alone well as we have some companies who are now doing yearly festivals.
Q: Who and What are your Influences?
A: My influences are from live around me, the people and things that surround us, so it is
always good to surround yourself with good people and good vibes. And the biggest
inspiration and influence to me is my father, Lucky Dube.
Q: Who’s is your favorite Reggae Artist? And why?
A: Gentleman. I love his stage prescence and how he carries himself off-stage.
Q: Where do you think Reggae will be in 10 years time?
A: Hopefully the same place where Pop music is today.
Q: What are you busy with at the moment?
I have just started a Canada tour as part of our World Tour 2017/2018.
We’re visiting cities across Canada, and I will also be going to the USA and Europe before returning to South Africa
Q: Any future plans?
A: Always, LOL.. No, seriously, hopefully married within the next 5 years
and have a growing family.
