SKIN FUNCTIONAL’S NEW MANDELIC TONIC LAUNCHES TODAY!
When it comes to skin exfolaition there are many routes one may take to effectively improve dullness and poor complexion. Lack lustre, tired and uneven complexion is a common skin concern many suffer from. Chemical exfoliators in a serum formulation afford superficial peeling to effectively execute skin exfoliation producing noticeable results.
What you need to know – the skintelligence behind the product?
Fruit acids are substances that have a superficial peeling action. Superficial peeling is a procedure in which the exfoliant penetrates through the entire thickness of the epidermis and of part, or all, of the papillary layer of the skin (depending on the concentration of the acid). The most frequently used fruit acids in dermatology and cosmetology are those with the shortest carbon chains; these include glycolic acid, lactic acid and mandelic acid.
The Alpha Hydroxy Acid – mandelic acid, is harvested from the extract of bitter almonds through the hydrolysis of benzaldehyde. A single mandelic acid molecule comprises of eight carbon atoms and is larger than a glycolic acid molecule, which contains only two.
Acne vulgaris is a common is a chronic skin disease. Skin lesions occur primarily in the seborrheic areas of the body, for example: the face, back, and chest. Mandelic acid yields very good results when used to treat excessive actinic keratosis (keratosis actinica), hyperpigmentation (lentigo solaris and melasma), and mesh like wrinkles, which are primarily caused by sun-induced aging of the skin. This product is therefore well suited for the care of skin with acne vulgaris.
An open study was carried out on 30 patients with papulo-pustular acne, who applied dermocosmetics to their skin for two months. Patients were tested with a five percent mandelic acid. The study revealed a gradual improvement in the condition of the skin in both groups, with a reduction in the number of pustules, inflammatory nodules, and comedones. Evidently, products containing five percent mandelic acid are both safe and effective for the treatment of acne.
Mandelic Acid has a large molecular structure which makes this acid suitable for sensitive skin. Mandelic acid has keratolytic and bactericidal properties and regulates the sebaceous glands.
The large molecular structure limits its ability to penetrate into the skin. The largest molecular size in the Alpha Hydroxy Acid, mandolin acid offers very slow, controlled penetration which makes this fruit acid the product of choice for darker skin types and more sensitive skin types.
It is a gentle exfoliator, suitable for sensitive skin that smooths rough and uneven skin tone which make it a suitable adjunctive treatment for acne.
How to apply to skin – After cleansing, saturate a cotton pad and gently wipe across face, neck and décolletage. Allow the tonic to dry on the skin, do not rinse off and follow with a serum or moisturiser. Apply once a day, preferably in the evening, after cleansing.
Sunburn alert: This product contains an Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) which may increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun and particularly the possibility of sunburn. Use a sunscreen, wear protective clothing and limit sun exposure while using this product and for a week afterwards.
