What does freedom mean to me?
One thing is for sure, my definition of the expression, being a child of freedom and the definition of another who lived through South Africa’s darkest days will surely differ, in many ways.
An individual that never lived through those times might take it for granted and express that freedom is a right for all yet those who lived during the strife would understand the true depth of this expression; freedom meant life, the act of being able to truly live, unmonitored and without the incessant violence that bruised the black family unit.
We have all heard about the painful atrocities that took place during those days and surely enough twenty-four years later we are grateful to be out of that dark hole, living in unity and sharing smiles with people of many shades and cultures.
South Africans all over the globe, can now be seen uniting in a single vision of Unity, a seed that was planted by their healer Nelson Mandela, it is up to us all to carry through this vision and grow a garden of Love and Unity in South Africa.
Oh yes, before I forget, Freedom to me is the right of self expression, the allowance to be who I want to be in my world.
